Bike history, FESTA and ICEcycles makes history

Hi Everyone
Here’s some more cycle- friendly events:
Saturday 18 October, 1 – 4 pm, at the WEA, 59 Gloucester Street, $12
This seminar is being offered as part of the Beca Heritage Week programme of events. Come along to hear fascinating insights into Christchurch’s transport systems in years gone by. Clare Simpson, cycling historian, enthusiast and frocker, will describe how cycling took the city by storm in the 1880s. John Shanks, Tramway Historian and a founder of the Tramway Historical Society, will also talk about the trams and the public transport system. To enrol phone the WEA at (03) 366 0285 email: or go online to:

The Lazy Sunday afternoon rides are coming up as part of FESTA. “Sunday” is more a frame of mind than a day as these run Saturday 25 October- Monday 27 October. Billed as “normal people wearing normal cloths on normal bikes”, they sound perfect for Frocks on Bikes rides. These are FREE but online sign up is compulsory.
The route is a 7 .5km lop of the beauty spots around the greater CBD, done a cruisy, sweat-free pace.

Also also tomorrow we have ICEcycles free bike Fix Up, cnr Stanmore and Worchester, 1-4pm. At some stage in the afternoon…drum roll… the 1000th bike will be fixed! There may be a wee celebration!
