A 5 minute survey, an invitation to a workshop and heads up about July rides

Hi Frockers

Wasn’t the Solstice ride AMAZING?! 400 riders certainly took up a whole lots of space -seemed more like 1000. So pretty seeing everyone’s light sparkling around the park!

I want to introduce 2 lovely ladies who are both doing cycling-related but quite different projects that I hope you will engage with:
Lily Bui is a visiting scholar at the University of Canterbury. She says: “This winter, UC’s Geohealth Laboratory and SensingCity Trust are working on a project that seeks to better understand cycling infrastructure and safety in Christchurch. We’ve created a short, 5-minute survey for cyclists in the city, and if you could donate a moment of your time to answer the questions, we would be so appreciative of your help! http://bit.ly/cyclewaysproject
Thank you so much in advance for considering, and cycle safely! Warmly, Lily Bui +64 021 034 5091”

Rose Dovey has a contract with Cycle Advocates Network (CAN) coordinating ‘Share the Road – Road User Workshops’. These aim to create an understanding between heavy vehicle drivers and cyclists about the issues each of them face on the road by literally putting them in each other’s seats. She’s organised a workshop for the 8th July (see invitation attached) which 10-15 bus driver trainers are attending. She needs to recruit some cyclists to balance things so if you can take part, please fill in the attached attendance form and return to rose@can.org.nz. or rose@motum.co.nz (ignore the rsvp by 22 June bit)

As for July’s ride, Connie and I have tossed around a few ideas- so watch this space! There are a few brand new bits of cycle infrastructure that it would be nice to check out, and the Lincoln-Springfield Cycle Way Grand Opening is on the cards, but no one seems to know exactly when. Or maybe once the snow has gone (and the current threat of heavy frost is over) a trip out to Oxford may be just the thing to get the blood pumping. Could the lady who wanted to host that ride please get in touch? I’m embarrassed to have forgotten your name…
As always, if you’re busting to show off a nice ride around your ‘hood, do get in touch! And please let me know if you no longer wish/need to get these emails

Meg
