Little River Rail Trail here we come!

Happy Friday Everyone
See the latest newsletter about our most ambitious ride to date! However, it is gradable and you can join in/opt out at any point. This ride is suitable for children although the first bit of the first section (Tai Tapu to Motukara) and the very last few 100 meters in Little River are on-road. If the weather is agin us I’ll post a cancellation on facebook
Do let me know if you require transport home/back to your car from Little River 027 8486927. I have persuaded my husband to drive out and we have room for 5 people and bikes. If there is demand, we’ll get another vehicle but please don’t book a space unless you are sure you are going to use it! It will be approx. $5-10 a bottom for the trip home. Meg and Connie

May and June Frocks on Bikes news

Hi Everyone

We’ve combined May and June events into one newsletter, but I’ll certainly write a quick note in mid-June to remind you of our annual Solstice Ride.
Please note that Bikes, Beer and Banter is tomorrow night. Apologies for the short notice but then some things are best left as last minute decisions!

Meg

Frocks on bikes Newsletter April2016.pdf

April’s Frocks on Bikes news and rides

Good morning Frockstars

Welcome to new members. Attached is another line up of rides and news for April.
Contrary to popular belief, Autumn is an AWESOME time to be cycling- the weather is mild with not too much wind, rain or sweltering heat. It’s also the time to sort out bike lighting for the coming darker days and finding comfy warmer clothing for winter’s frosty starts.

This month we also offer two opportunities for you to influence your unconfident-on-a-bike-but-interested-in-doing-something-about-it friends, family members and work colleagues:
1. Bring along your person to one or more of Connie’s “Give it a Go” rides – details of where and when are detailed in the newsletter. Spaces are limited to just 10 (but unlimited to confident riders). Yes, this is another Go Cycle Christchurch outreach initiative!
2. No time for health? Think again! By shifting one segment of your work commute to sitting on a saddle instead of the driver seat, you could improve your health. Catherine Elliot from Lincoln University is conducting a research study on people who are willing to take up cycling as an active mode of transportation to work 3 days a week for 3 months. In exchange, participants will receive a free personal health Warrant of Fitness before and after the intervention. Participants should be willing to use their own bike and helmet (we can get it ready to ride). Do you live too far from work? No problem! Participants will get help finding a “Park and Pedal” location where they can park and ride the rest of the way to work. Want a riding partner? We can bike with you on safe roads until you feel comfortable. Expected research outcomes include increased health and well-being and decreased risk of diabetes and heart disease. Catherine will collect your height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar data as well as a health questionnaire at the Lincoln University Active Living Research Laboratory. Data will be used to evaluate and advise you of common health risk factors. She is particularly keen to recruit participants who are not currently biking to work as well as those who are (existing regular commuter cyclists will act as the control group). Are you ready to get back in the saddle again? If so, please contact Catherine: Catherine.Elliot@lincoln.ac.nz / Work phone 423 0493.

As always, if you no longer wish to get these emails, let me know. Likewise, if you have an idea for a feature ride, do sing out! Meg and Connie
