Winnter Solstice Ride Sunday 21 June 5pm

Greeting all

It looks like we’re pretty much back to normal -in the cycling world any way- and I’m happy to be promoting event and rides again.

Yes, the Solstice ride is on. As always, it is on 21 June (a Sunday this year), meeting at 5pm just inside the Armagh Street gates into Hagley Park and heading off around 5.30 .

Light up your bikes, wrap up well and come for the ride! I believe it is on, no matter how bad the weather!

We’ve had an excellent suggestion of a frock-like duathlon: a leisurely ride out to the new salt-water pools in New Brighton for a lazy, toasty-warm soak. A date and time to be announced once I’ve consulted with Commanding Officer, Connie J

Frocks on Biikes Newsletter

Covid Greetings!

Connie and I sincerely hope that you and your family have been keeping well during the lockdown.

In Level 3 everyone is trying new ways to get back to “business as usual” in unusual times, and so is Frocks on Bikes. Connie has dreamed up a Riding-together-but-alone-or-in-your-bubble Ride for May. She also suggests that you take your teddy bear along for the ride. There is also, for those who wish to, an opportunity meet up via Zoom before or after your outing- Details attached, including how to register for Zoom for zui virgins.

It’s unbelievable, but the shortest day is in a mere 6 weeks away. We wait with bated breath to see how the Solstice Ride may play out…

Connie and Meg

Peace Train Ride(s) Update

Dear Frockers

We certainly live in uncertain times. The organisers of this year’s Peace train have had a hard time trying to decide the best course of action given Covid 19 and it’s sneaky infiltration. SOOO… it’s still on, but on a greatly scaled down version. We can’t and certainly don’t want to have the huge crowd we had last year and put you all at risk!

Organisers are still refining the what, where and how. I am expecting a call this afternoon but this is just a heads up to check in with facebook before you/if you leave home for the ride! https://www.facebook.com/events/860157494397487/

As most Frock on Bikes events don’t have more than 40 riders- usually more like 15-20- I expect we’ll still have monthly rides. Updates about the Bottlelake ride hosted by the Nigerian group and the Passchendale Track Ride oN Anzac Day coming up in April’s newsletter.

Keep safe, keep healthy and carry on riding.

Meg

March Frocks on Bikes Newsletter

Dear Frockers

My sincere apologies for the very late notice of the Open Streets Event and the Seaweek Ride – both on THIS SUNDAY.

We’ve just had confirmation of the starting places for 2020 Peace Train, our March Frocks Feature Ride. All details attached. Last year 300 riders came which was wonderful but chaotic and congested. This time there are four rides-each visiting a different combination of faith-based sites, all of which end up at The Commons/Aldersgate Church for cycle parking and afternoon tea.

A special shout out to frockers who have helped plan/lead/contribute great ideas and places to visit for the 2020 Peace Train Ride! Thank you Christine, Ian, Robert and Steven

Frocks on Bikes Jan/Feb newsletter

Happy New Year everyone

Connie and I dusted off the last decade at the Christchurch Adventure Park with a zip line ride followed by a coffee and a spot of Frocks 2020 planning.

We’re probably going to repeat some tried and true rides which have seemed to be enjoyed in the past: biking out to Wendy and Don’s Blueberry farm (see attached- this is planned for 1 Feb), another Hops and Spokes brewery ride (thanks for the offer to plan this Dawn!), riding the Passchendaele Track on Anzac Day, supporting the Peace Train ride, going on the long but rewarding haul out on the Little River Rail Trail in midwinter and maybe paying another a visit to Shabby Chic Market. If there is enough interest we’ll even repeat the Weka Pass Rail Ride (thanks Christine for indicating you’ll help with logistics again).

Towards the end of the year the rest of the Heathcote Express will be finished and a start will be made on the South Express and the Nor’West Arc Major Cycleways. An inspection of those may be in order at some stage. 2020 is going to be another great year of social riding with something for everyone! Keep your ideas coming!

Its that time of year again!

Come along down to New Brighton on Saturday week for a bit of festive fun. All details attached for the final organised Frocks on Bikes ride of the year. If we don’t see you, I hope you have a very happy and safe Christmas and look forward to doing some more riding together in 2020.

As always, do let us know if you no longer wish to get these emails, and if you have a great idea for a ride, we’re always happy to help you plan and promote it.

December 2019 Frocks on Bikes Feature Ride.pdf

A ride, a course, a competition and an apology

Hi Again Frocker-Folk

Georgina was first of the ranks to suggest a ride for November. It’s pretty free form at this stage, but she invites you to contact her at rout to discuss an e-bike ride somewhere in the Waimakariri District/North Canterbury area. Should you wish to share what you plan, let me know and we’ll pop the details into another post.

I should have let you know about the next Ride Leaders workshop on Saturday , 23 November 2019. If you are interested in learning how to lead a ride then please register online: https://forms.gle/11Vgy1X6wd23Use6A

Hot of the press, this from Caroline Fenton, from SCAPE coms:

“Kia ora and thanks so much for taking part in the Frocks on Bikes SCAPE artwork tour (October 6).
As part of the Season, we’re running a competition where you could win return flights for two to China simply by filling in their 3-minute survey. “The People Have Spoken!” Anderson Lloyd People’s Choice Award runs until 16 November when the season ends. So if you haven’t checked out the SCAPE artwork, you have only another 10 days to do so." Only this lunchtime I biked with a colleague through Victoria Square and heard the eerie auditory art installation emitting from the bridge- just beautiful!Highly recommended, as is a drink from the big marrow, aka Princess XL, on Montreal Street! For all the art works visit https://www.scapepublicart.org.nz/artists-artworks-3

Lastly, I believe I sent the WRONG PDF advertising the Halloween ride. It was last years’ panui, not 2019. For those who gathered at 7pm we hope you had a fun ride through the throngs of street kids- the rest of us (4) met at 7.30pm, lol. Yes, the message about the Dutch film thingie and the Promenade Opening was a whole year out of date. Sorry for the confusion everyone. Don’t trust everything you see in writing!

Meg (having triple-checked her dates, spelling and links 😉 )

No Frocks on Bikes Newsletter this month

Dear Frocks on Bikes

Connie and I have decided to NOT offer a November ride, so no newsletter either as we’re pretty bike evented-out after Biketober. I’m not sure about Connie, but I participated in/helped run 18 events over the month. However if YOU have a great idea of a bike-related ride or event for November, we’ll support you in promoting it and with any behind-the-scene organisation. Drop us a line!

If you came to any Biketober events, please could you fill out the survey to give organisers an idea of what works and what needs changing: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/biketober2019

Standby for our next December panui which will be advertising the New Brighton Santa parade. Our dress theme this time? Steam punk/vintage/retro!

Biketober wraps up for another year with the Halloween Ride

Hello Frockers

Save the date! Find attached all details about our second feature Frocks ride this month. We’ll still go out if its cold but not in the rain! This is a reasonably short kid-friendly ride. We’ll be going to a pub afterwards with nibbles provided by Biketober.

For those doing the Bike Passport competition, prize giving is on at the Xchange on Wilson Road from 5pm – 6.30pm with loads of prizes to be won!
