A ride, a course, a competition and an apology

Hi Again Frocker-Folk

Georgina was first of the ranks to suggest a ride for November. It’s pretty free form at this stage, but she invites you to contact her at rout to discuss an e-bike ride somewhere in the Waimakariri District/North Canterbury area. Should you wish to share what you plan, let me know and we’ll pop the details into another post.

I should have let you know about the next Ride Leaders workshop on Saturday , 23 November 2019. If you are interested in learning how to lead a ride then please register online: https://forms.gle/11Vgy1X6wd23Use6A

Hot of the press, this from Caroline Fenton, from SCAPE coms:

“Kia ora and thanks so much for taking part in the Frocks on Bikes SCAPE artwork tour (October 6).
As part of the Season, we’re running a competition where you could win return flights for two to China simply by filling in their 3-minute survey. “The People Have Spoken!” Anderson Lloyd People’s Choice Award runs until 16 November when the season ends. So if you haven’t checked out the SCAPE artwork, you have only another 10 days to do so." Only this lunchtime I biked with a colleague through Victoria Square and heard the eerie auditory art installation emitting from the bridge- just beautiful!Highly recommended, as is a drink from the big marrow, aka Princess XL, on Montreal Street! For all the art works visit https://www.scapepublicart.org.nz/artists-artworks-3

Lastly, I believe I sent the WRONG PDF advertising the Halloween ride. It was last years’ panui, not 2019. For those who gathered at 7pm we hope you had a fun ride through the throngs of street kids- the rest of us (4) met at 7.30pm, lol. Yes, the message about the Dutch film thingie and the Promenade Opening was a whole year out of date. Sorry for the confusion everyone. Don’t trust everything you see in writing!

Meg (having triple-checked her dates, spelling and links 😉 )

No Frocks on Bikes Newsletter this month

Dear Frocks on Bikes

Connie and I have decided to NOT offer a November ride, so no newsletter either as we’re pretty bike evented-out after Biketober. I’m not sure about Connie, but I participated in/helped run 18 events over the month. However if YOU have a great idea of a bike-related ride or event for November, we’ll support you in promoting it and with any behind-the-scene organisation. Drop us a line!

If you came to any Biketober events, please could you fill out the survey to give organisers an idea of what works and what needs changing: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/biketober2019

Standby for our next December panui which will be advertising the New Brighton Santa parade. Our dress theme this time? Steam punk/vintage/retro!

Meg and Connie

Biketober wraps up for another year with the Halloween Ride

Hello Frockers

Save the date! Find attached all details about our second feature Frocks ride this month. We’ll still go out if its cold but not in the rain! This is a reasonably short kid-friendly ride. We’ll be going to a pub afterwards with nibbles provided by Biketober.

For those doing the Bike Passport competition, prize giving is on at the Xchange on Wilson Road from 5pm – 6.30pm with loads of prizes to be won!

September Frocks on Bikes Newsletter

Good Morning Frockers.

I refuse to be one of those people who say “where has the year gone?” but really, I can’t believe that it’s already September. Winter was so painless this year J.

If you’re keen to do the steam train/bike combo on the 15th you’ll need to book asap. Connie reckons the online ticketing system can be a bit of a beast to tackle, but, despite the message last week that the “bicycle stow” was full, there is actually still plenty of bike spaces available. However, seats for humans do tend to get booked out so don’t leave it too late! All details for hopefully pain-free booking are in September’s newsletter.

Meg, Connie and Christine

August’s Frocks Feature Ride and newsletter

Dear Frockers

This month’s Frocks Feature Ride is a trip down memory lane, literally, for me as we visit some of the neat cycling spots around Burnside. Many of these places predate the new wave of cycle infrastructure by 6+ decades. I remember riding my 20" Raleigh in Westburn Reserve with the gang, 50 years ago. Kids only, of course, no adults around in the good old days!

The park has a mini road network with road signs, roundabouts, stop junctions and so on for kids to practice their road safety cycling skills. No bike? Then bring trikes or scooters. There’s a small playground with slides, swings, seesaws and a roundabout and loos. Whoever is first there, please claim the picnic table!

The ride is just 5 km long on roads with generous cycle lanes but, if you feel you’re child is not up to it, please consider staying back at Westburn Reserve and letting them zoom around on their own terms.
