People’s Climate Parade- Sat 28 Nov

Hi Everyone

We had a most interesting ride out at Oxford (the whole milk stop over was a hit!) but our next ride takes us back to the heart of the city.
Attached are details about the People’s Climate Parade. I hope lots of you can make it because this year we won’t be patronizing the annual Santa Parade because it is on the following weekend. In fact, if no other “must-rides” come our way, this event on 28 November’s will be the last FoB ride we do for the year.
Keep ideas of what to do and where to ride coming- we appreciate your input. And, as always, do let me know if you no longer wish to get these emails. You can continue to keep in the loop by visiting our face book page. Attached too, is a link to a 5 minute cycling survey.
Environmentally yours,
Meg

Oxford ride: 8 november and more

Happy Friday, Frocks on Bikers!
We have 2 excellent rides for you in November. Our Oxford rides takes us further out of the city than we have ever ventured to date. It promises to be packed with country treats! While car pooling can be done through face book, for those who dont do face book you can contact Connie directly on 021 127 79250. I’m making the most of the day by going out early on the nearby Whardale Track. People are welcome to come with but I shall be leaving at 7.15am! I have capacity for 4 bikes- phone 0278 848 6927.
I shall be posting more details about the exciting Climate Parade closer to the time.
On a more serious note, there are 3 cycle ways documents out or due out soon for consultation:
Little River – to the Hospital through Addington and Middleton from the southern motorway Rapanui –Shag Rock to town via Linwood
Papanui Parallell – Northlands mall to city (compliments railway cycleway) The links to the Little River-Hosptial one are attached.
Please submit that you like these (if you in fact do) with some polite, encouraging improvements as you see fit. We may be up against decenting voices which, if they are the majority, may stymie the whole process! Looking forward to seeing lots of you out on our rides this month. Babboe bike deomonstrations tomorrow, 8 August

Hello again-this just to hand: Sjors Brouwer (who describes himself as “Dutch, getting more kiwi every year”) is demonstrating the Babboe bike TOMORROW 8 August; 12.00 Antigua Boat Sheds, 2 Cambridge Terrace and from 2pm at Van Dams Cafe, 355 Riccarton Road
Babboe are everywhere in Holland, (mostly non-electric, as Holland is flat, and Dutch people have strong legs, according to Siors!). However Babboe have very good gears to deal with heavy loads. The cost is easily recouped if it replaces a car trip -always a great excuse to buy another bike!
Siors has bikes suitable for touring and/or transporting large loads, e.g. 4 children.
Cycling technique for three wheelers requires some getting used to especially on cambered roads, but bumps are no problem! Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F_OFmQkghk
You can find more information and photos on ecoproductsnz@live.com and on Trademe and Sjors is happy to provide extra information: 03-5285436 Thats all this time

Reminer about Solstice Ride

Hellooo Frockers

Ian and I hardly dare to give the winter solstice ride much more promotion. With 2500 “going” it’s going to be HUGE! On the other hand, do you dare NOT going and missing out on the fun?
Rain, hail, snow or lovely nor’west balmy, its on! Lights compulsory, the more the better. Meet: 5.30pm, Sunday 21 June, Armagh Street Gates. ETA finish 6.15-ish
This is a kid- friendly ride, its all off road. However, with the sheer numbers of bikes it may make it a little difficult for you to keep track of your child, in the dark.
We’ll have a couple of first aiders if you or your bike need patching up. Look out for us- we’ll be wearing red crosses.
A word of warning, too, if you plan to drive your bike(s) to Hagley Park. Currently there is no vehicle access through the Armagh Street gates to the Botanic Gardens car park. You’ll have to find an on-street park in town or take an alternative route into the gardens car park off Hagley Ave. Better still, ride your bike to the event! I hesitate to recommend putting it on the bus because there may be high demand that night.
For after-match functions there are a variety of wining and dining opportunities to choose from: Fiddlesticks (48 Worchester St), the Pegasus Arms (14 Oxford Tce), The Carlton, (top end of Papanui Rd),and the Running Bull bar and grill (top end of Riccarton). They have been warned we are coming. Alternatively if you want a cheap and cheerful sit down Korean/Japanese fusion meal at Mums 24 (62 Manchester), please go to the frocks facebook and rsvp. Or just let me know. Oh and there will be food trucks outside the museum for hardy souls.

Meg, Ian, Nurse Connie

PS. We recently featured on an Australian blog. Text not 100% accurate, but who believes everything in the print media anyway? Check out the archived photos. Lovely pics of Angela, Jo, Justine, Nicky and two gals who’s names have escaped me… https://www.bikeexchange.co.nz/blog/frocks-on-bikes
