Who loves to roll? We do!
February is BikeWise Month and Sport Bay of Plenty has a calendar of cycling activities for all levels of riders during the month of February.
National Go By Bike Day will be held on Wednesday 13th February, and Sport BOP wants to get as many people as possible commuting by bike on this day!  Take a photo of your team on their bikes and upload it to the Sport BOP facebook page, register and be in to win a fantastic new bike and bike package! On Go By Bike Day from 6.30am – 8.30am look out for the Bike Month Pit Stops located in various locations around town, giving out prizes and refreshments to cyclists commuting to work. Sorry ladies, this year the free breakfast at Red Square is not part of this event.

Frocks on Bikes Tauranga Valentine Ride and Frocknic Saturday 16th February at 10am.
Meet at Robbins Park located on Cliff Road next to the Botanical Gardens. Bring a road worthy bicycle, helmet and a picnic. 10K ride through town to Memorial Park and back. Picnic in the park after the ride. Red and white theme. Bring along your sweetheart!
We will have goodies to give away to all participants compliments of Sport BOP. Super!

A very happy new year to our fabulous frockers!

Next week we are celebrating our flock’s second anniversary with a ride at the Mount! We are also pleased to announce the arrival of Rosie’s baby born in December and Charlotte “tying the knot” this February! Here’s the delicious scoop on the ride!

When: Wednesday 16 January

Where: Meet outside Mount Surf Club at Mount Main Beach

Time: 6pm start

Distance: approx. 15K

Post-ride drinks and food: Mac’s Astrolabe Brew Bar

What to bring: road worthy bicycle, helmet, bicycle lock and room for some birthday cake!

Frocks on Bikes Tauranga featured in AA Directions Magazine

We are so very pleased! Frocks on Bikes Tauranga is featured in the Summer 2012 issue of AA Directions magazine.

AA has dedicated this latest issue of their magazine to cycling in New Zealand. If you are a member of AA you will receive your copy in the post. The magazine is also available on line!


BIG thank you to those ladies who showed up for the photoshoot. Several of us went for a ride afterwards as it was such a nice afternoon we couldn’t resist the opportunity to spin our wheels! There are 3 photos to view on the website. You can click on each one individually. Charlotte Grant and Amanda Hoyte look pleased as punch and Marianne Rastorfer shows us how the Europeans do it!

There is a poll on the AA website asking “If we could improve the safety of cycling on our urban roads, would you give cycling a go?” Yes or No. Take a minute to have your say!

Also, there is a prize drawing for two bicycles from Avanti. You must be an AA member to put your name in the draw. Good Luck!

Frocktober Papamoa Ride this Sunday (Tauranga)

Hello Frockers ! A friendly reminder, we are touring Papamoa Reserves this Sunday October 14th.

Meet at carpark next to Papamoa library. 10am start. Easy 12K road and off-road cycling. Lunch after the ride at Fashion Island. Please remember to bring a helmet, water bottle and lunch money. Check your tyre pressure before leaving home. Holly will bring a pump for those who require assistance.

Tauranga Waterfront tour UPDATE

Update – Frocks on Bikes Tauranga waterfront tour Sunday 23 September.

Start time is now 11:30 (see email below). FOB lunch following ride at Cafe Bravo. Postpone date 30 September if bad weather.

Kas Craw, Sustainable Transport Officer for Bay of Plenty Regional Council, received requests from Central TV and The Daily Post to feature events in The Bay around Car Free Week. She wants to include Frocks on Bikes and will ask the media to meet us on the Strand at the start of our ride or afterwards at Cafe Bravo. Here’s your chance to SHINE ladies!

Fancy a bike ride ladies?

The new Tauranga Waterfront will officially open on Sunday the 23rd September and Frocks on Bikes will be there!

Tauranga City Council and Mainstreet Tauranga are celebrating the completion of the first stage of the city’s new waterfront. We like this because the waterfront is now bicycle and pedestrian friendly! To celebrate Frocks on Bikes will lead a bike tour connecting several of our favourite waterfront parks starting and finishing at the waterfront in downtown Tauranga.

Meet: Corner of Wharf Street on the Strand

When: 11:30 on the 23rd September

Route: A flat 12km ride to Fergusson Park and back via Crescent Drive-Sulphur Point-Chapel Street-Kulim Park.

Finish: 1:30 at Cafe Bravo for a FOB lunch and coffee

Some of the activities and entertainment planned for the waterfront celebration include:

  • The Little Big Market
  • Buskers
  • Bike Trials
  • Eric Murray & Hamish Bond, Olympic Gold Medallists
  • Music from local musicians The Mile, Luke Thompson, Lydia Cole and Oh Mary

Pssst!!!!  $2 coffee at Cafe Bravo for citizen’s using alternative transportation during car free week September 17-23. Cyclists show your helmet when placing your coffee order. This offer is good on our Sunday ride day as well! World Car Free Day is 22 Sept with over 1000 cities world wide taking part, including Tauranga.

Spring is in the air! Birds wake us in the early morning hours. Daffodils are blooming. And your bicycle is begging you to take it for a spin!

Your fearless two wheeled leaders Rosie,Charlotte, and Holly have been talking, networking, and lunching over the past two months resulting in a fabulous line-up of events which we know Frockers will love. Here’s a sampling of what’s to come…

September 23rd – Tauranga Water Front Opening! Frocks on Bikes will be there. Car free week, complimentary java and more! Stay tuned…

October We love Frocktober! We will ride through Papamoa reserves a plenty as part of Sport Bay of Plenty Outdoors month. Date TBD.

October 24th hop off your bike and walk for the cure! Support this year’s10th Anniversary Breast Cancer Walk and local female cyclists behind this successful event Iris Thomas and Venessa Quinn.

November 3rd – Frocks on Bikes Wheel Fashion Show at La De Da Boutique. Do you like vintage fashion from the 1950s and 60s? So do we! Come see the Spring 2012 launch of local dress label Molly May!

November – Tauranga Garden and Art Festival FOB public garden tour. Yes Mame!  We love our parks and reserves, especially those featuring public art. No better way to see it than on your bike! Date TBD.

Don’t be a lady in distress! Join us for a friendly “no stupid questions” bicycle maintenance clinic at Red BikeWednesday 27 June 6-8pm.
Red Bike is a new bike shop at the Mount specialising in Specialized bicycles and related products. OwnersGrant and Carolyn Lyon have invited Frocks on Bikes to attend an evening at their shop to learn bicycle maintenance and repair basics. Super!
To make it even more welcoming there will be wine, cheese, and home baked goodies to help feed your new “super powers” plus spot prizes and a special FOB discount on the night!
It’s all about gaining confidence and having more reason to ride then not to ride ladies!
