With the longest night fast approaching, being seen is more important than ever. Frocks on Bikes together with Greater Wellington, WCC and Bicycle Junction brings you the brightest night of your social calendar – keep Thursday the 19th June free. Join us at The Sustainability Trust for drinks, nibbles (koha please!) and a range of the flashest, brightest, thoroughly-tested-and-approved lights and reflective gears. No need to layer on the fluoro – we’ll show you something way more effective!
Also on display will be a range of bikes from Bicycle Junction. Always wondered if there’s something to those European style bikes? Wanna bike but got three kids in tow? Keen to bike down the hill, but not back up? The peeps at Bicycle Junction have something for everyone! They’ll bring along latest model Pilens, Schwinns, Brown Jerseys, cargo-bikes, electric bikes and if we ask nicely, maybe even a folding Brompton!
Or try out each others bikes – the courtyard outside the Trust provides us with great space to go for a whirl and figure out what you’re next ride might look like.
You’ll be going home with pockets full of flash prizes (did we mention, there’ll be raffles, discount vouchers and giveaways?) and a wish list of new bikes (who says you can’t have a bike for every occasion?).
Try a bike, get kitted up in lights, ride off into the night and know you’ll be safe, seen and seen in style!
Bicycle Junction is hosting a Tweed Ride on the 12th of April. More info to come, in the meantime, see their website bicyclejunction.co.nz/events/tweed for details.
Frockers – Wellington cyclists need you!
The WCC has proposed increasing the cycling budget to $4.3 million to spend on new cycle infrastructure… whoop!!!!
BUT… the Council also needs to fund libraries and pools and earthquake strengthening and events and, well, the list goes on. The cycling budget would only be a fraction of this total, but so so very significant for Wellington cyclists and long overdue.
Here’s where you come in:
We need you to make a submission supporting the cycling budget increase. It’ll only take a couple of minutes.
Click on this link: Draft Annual Plan 2014/15 and fill in the online submission form.
Tell them why better safer roads are important to you. Tell them why you love riding your bike. Tell them you want to do it more often. And you want your friends to join you!
Here’s some more ideas from Cycle Aware Wellington: http://can.org.nz/caw-2014/have-your-say
You could also send an email to email@example.com
Do it today.
Feedback closes on 11 March.

‘What is a Ciclovía?’ you say. I’m glad you asked!
Ciclovía is a phenomenon that is taking the world by storm. It’s a simple concept – close a road to cars and open it to people. Free of traffic, Ciclovía allows people to experience their city in a whole new way.
From its roots in Colombia, to downtown Los Angeles, to Melbourne, to Waiheke Island, Ciclovía has finally made it to Wellington!
On Sunday 16 February from 1pm – 5pm, 3.5 kilometers of the Miramar Peninsula, from Shelly Bay to Scorching Bay, will be open for walkers, cyclists, and people on rollerblades, push scooters and in wheelchairs. It will be an opportunity to enjoy this lovely part of the Great Harbour Way without having to worry about traffic. A perfect occasion for families, people of all ages – bring your football / kite / frisbee / picnic – and grab coffee at the Chocolate Fish or Scorch-o-Rama cafes.
