Updating the status of Sunday’s Rail Trail Ride

Hi Everyone
I’ve had a bit of correspondence from people wondering whether our Little River Rail Trail ride is going ahead. Well…not only is the weather for Sunday extremely changeable, there seems to be little agreement between different local forecast websites! So I will send a ‘it’s on” or “it’s off” message out late on Saturday afternoon, as planned.
Assuming we go ahead, so far we have 8 people for up to 10 places in our 2 vehicles coming back from Little River. The next 2 people to book their place gets them! Fingers crossed
Meg

Frocks on Bikes August Newsletter

Everyone
Here’s our August newsletter with details about our Little River Rail Trail day out. For those who don’t wish to ride the full 30km from Taitapu, the alternative meeting point at Motokarara at 10.45am where Frocker Tania will be waiting. The plan is for the Taitapu riders to get there by 10.45am but, who knows, we may be delayed by 5-10 minutes.
Thanks to the four of you who have got in touch requesting a ride back. Any more? Please let me know meg.christie@cdhb.health.nz or 027 8486927 and I will get a 2nd or 3rd vehicle. Also,, if you know of someone who can help with shuttling, let me know!
Don’t forget to scroll down for more upcoming cycling events and opportunities. We’ll post more exciting details about Biketober as they get confirmed. Meg

Little River Ride Sunday 20 August, 9.30am

Hi Everyone
I’m giving you over 2 weeks notice for our August feature ride. Lets hope this “fine” period holds and we don’t get a wash out like July’s ride was. I’m told 4 amphibious cyclists turned up on the rain date of Sunday 23- obviously not put off by the incredible flooding that weekend!
Please do get in touch if you want to come on the rail trail but need a ride back from Little River. If you can offer rides to others, I’d love to know. So far we have 2 offers of drivers. I think last year we managed with 3 vehicles. Cheers
Meg (and Connie, who is still in Denmark but has rubber stamped this :))

Hi All
Matt Melchert has kindly offered to lead a ride around Horseshoe Lake **Saturday 22 July at 11am**
Our meeting place and post-ride refreshment stop is the Links Café, 45 Horseshoe Lake Road at the Shirley Golf Course. If you wish, you can ring the café on their ‘coffee order’ mobile number 027 376 7954 and you’ll jump to the head of the peloton for your fast coffee fix.
Rain date is Sunday 23 July, same place same time. At this stage, it looks like Sunday may be the better option! But if you are unsure, please contact Matt 022 050 3671 or face bookers can see what’s up on his page. Meg and Matt

Papanui Parallel Ride this Sunday

Hi Everyone
I hear the Solstice Ride was fantastic this year with something like 500 participants. Well done all of you who braved the shortest night of the year and came along. In the meantime, camping out on a farm in France, I was experiencing the shortest night. The only problem was it didn’t get dark enough to see the stars until after 11pm and the dawn chorus commenced at 4am! Not complaining, tho ?.
In lieu of a newsletter, this is just a short panui to let you know about the Papanui Parallel event this Sunday- see attached for details. The PP is one of the Major Cycle Route which had loads of apposition from local retailers and residents. So it would be great for you to come along to demonstrate your support for the cycle advocates, community board and council staff who made it happen!
Also in July, and also in northern suburbs, there are plans afoot for Frocks to explore Shirley and beyond. Details to come….maybe. Connie is away (her turn for Europe) so only me at the helm of the Frockship for now.
As always, we welcome ideas for rides from you. Who’s keen to ride out to Little River again? This may be August’s feature ride, but for this to happen we need at least 2 support vehicles at the other end to support the return trip. A big, belated thanks to Mary, Diana and John for their help last year. Can we manage another perfectly clear, frosty day for it? I hope so! Meg

2 Sunday Rides coming up in April

Hi Everyone
Just a wee reminder that April’s feature ride that is happening this Sunday 23 April. We’ll meet at Riccarton House at 11.30am and ride out to the Halswell Market. There will be a group ride back for those who do not wish to make their own way back into town.
And, just to hand, we now have a lovely poster –attached- advertising a Spokes ride on the following Sunday, 30 April. Leaving at 1pm from the Armagh Street Gate, this ride will to look at the proposed route of the Nor’West Arc Cycleway.
With luck, details about May and Junes’ rides and events will be posted next Friday as I’m on leave for all of May and June. Part of my holiday will be cycling the Ring of Kerry in Ireland! No doubt Ireland will be the test for my plastic mac purchased from Briscoes, $4.99. I hope I’ve got a bargain! Otherwise I’ll be kicking myself that I didn’t “splash” out on the very stylish ponchos on offer at Action Bicycle Club, 8 Walker Street. (Thanks Ken and Charlotte and Via Cycles for hosting Ladies Night last Wednesday btw) Happy cycling all!
Meg
